Description
- The Global Race Engine concept has been introduced in an effort to reduce the cost of motorsport.
- The FIA has brought forward a formula of specific rules and regulations for a unique 4-cylinder engine to be of a design which can be easily adapted to and used in a variety of motorsport disciplines.
Since 2011, the GRE formula has been used in a range of motor sport categories:
- as a 1.6L turbo engine in the World Rally Championship (WRC) and with same displacement in the World Touring Car Championship (WTCC).
- In Formula 3 as an atmospheric 2.0L version.
- From 2016 the formula will also be applied to high power 2,0L turbocharged engines, according to the regulations and used in a variety of motorsport including Rallycross.
The original concept was conceived by MDS but the project had been revived by the changing rules of Rallycross. Julian had been looking for a head start In the Custom Engine development and this particular project caught our attention. In fact, it was so similar to our outline drawing of the perfect Rallycross Engine. We simply could not ignore it.
- The versatility of the engine design means it can be configured to match several motor sport disciplines each with own set of technical regulations.
- It covers displacement from 1.6 to 2.5-litre.
- Can be turbocharged or naturally aspirated.
- Achieves power levels ranging from 240 to 900 hp.
In full Turbocharged RX form weighs 130kg in keeping with the FIA rules.
- We have worked in detail from the design of internal components to the positioning of external components to allow for Inline of Transverse fitment.
- We are using internal components made by our established approved suppliers to ensure we maintain the high levels of performance and reliability as our current engines.
